Freedom in Christ

Did you know God doesn’t expect you to get all cleaned up before you come to Him.? Romans 5:8 says “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” He’s not surprised by where you are, where you've been or the things you’ve been through and done. God sent Jesus knowing full well what you would do before you did it.

The “religious” people of Jesus’ day asked Him why He was eating with sinners. He answered them by saying that’s exactly who He came for.

Matthew 9:10-13 says

“While Jesus sat at supper in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners? But when Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Jesus didn’t come for those that think that have it all together. He came for those who realize apart from Him they are a mess. Apart from Him that can do no good thing.

Jesus came to set you free from the bondage and slavery of sin so you could live a victorious life right now. So come to Jesus just as you are. Let Him wash you white as snow, set you free from the things that have bound you, and transform you from the inside-out!

It is in becoming a disciple, not just a believer in Christ, that you experience true freedom. John 8:31-32 says “Then said Jesus to those Jews that believed on Him, ‘If you continue in my Word then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’” You first believe on Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10), then continue in the Word to become disciples, and then you know the truth that sets you free. The truth that sets you free comes from continuing in the Word, not just a moment of salvation.

You want to hear something cool? In John 14:6 Jesus says He is the way the TRUTH, and the life. So by continuing in the Word what we are really knowing is THE TRUTH, Jesus.

There are many Christians that have become “believers” but have not become “disciples”. As a result, they lack a knowledge of the truth and are not living a life of freedom. But the great news is you CAN live free! As you get into the Word you will better know Jesus, the truth, and it will bring you freedom! Get on a Bible reading plan and make it consistent. Study His Word and ask Him to reveal Himself to you within it. Not for the purpose of checking it off your list for the today, but for the purpose of knowing Him, of knowing truth. And you will see the freedom begin to take place in your life!
